EU Project H2GEO

In 2023, HALDEX, in cooperation with the Instytut Techniki Górniczej KOMAG, Główny Instytut Górnictwa, Ustav Stavebnictva A Architektury Slovenskej Akademie Vied V.V.I, Instytut Technologii Paliw i Energii, and VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, launched the project Nowa technologia produkcji kompozytów wodorowych i geopolimerowych z odpadów pogórniczych (acronym H2GEO). The project is co-financed by the European Research Executive Agency of the European Commission under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.
The current situation on the fuel market, mainly related to the war in Ukraine, may lead to interruptions in the supply of fuels and other raw materials, including construction materials.
The project aims to develop a comprehensive technology for the management of post-mining waste dumps. The main assumption of the project is the use of separated mineral fractions and fly ash for the production of geopolymer composites. The process also plans to use CO₂ as a carrier in the production of composites.
Another important aspect of the project is to define the possibilities of obtaining Hydrogen from the gasification of energy fractions. High-quality raw materials for the production of geopolymers and hydrogen will be ensured by the application of an innovative mobile separator for mining waste processing.
The project will make it possible to create environmentally friendly and economically justified installations that use materials from post-mining landfills. Achieving the final objective will be possible thanks to the implementation of the project’s partial goals, including the development of technologies dedicated to the production of geopolymers and hydrogen.
